Lab Traceability Is a System Problem, Not a Compliance Task

Traceability is often treated as a requirement. In reality, it's a system design problem.

Traceability is often introduced as a compliance requirement.

But compliance is just a symptom.

The misunderstanding

Labs try to “add” traceability:

  • logs
  • audit trails
  • reports

But traceability cannot be added after the fact.

It must be built-in

Traceability emerges when:

  • actions are recorded automatically
  • systems are connected
  • workflows are enforced

The difference

Manual traceability → incomplete
System traceability → automatic

Traceability is not something you do.
It’s something your system produces.
