Storage
Virtual file system for lab data
A secure, organized file system for all your lab data. Upload raw data files, instrument outputs, images, and reports — organized in folders, with fine-grained access control per directory.

Folder organization
Create a directory tree that mirrors your lab structure. Unlimited nesting, rename and move at any time.
Granular access control
Set READ, WRITE, or READ_WRITE access per user, per directory. Private by default.
Large file support
Upload directly to secure cloud storage. No browser size limits. Files are stored in Cloudflare R2.
Team sharing
Mark directories as public for org-wide access, or invite specific members with explicit grants.
Secure by design
All files are private by default. Access is role-based, with inherited permissions down the directory tree.
Fast upload flow
Presigned direct-to-cloud uploads mean large files transfer at full speed without going through our servers.
Drag and drop
Drop files directly into the browser. Batch uploads, progress indicators, and instant confirmation.
Built for real lab workflows
Raw instrument output
Raw FCS files from cytometers, RAW spectra from mass specs, ND2 stacks from microscopes. Multi-gigabyte files upload directly to encrypted cloud storage and stay linked to the experiment that produced them.
Imaging and microscopy archives
Confocal stacks, time-lapse series, and immunostaining images organized by project and experiment. Reviewers see thumbnails, downloaders get the full file, and metadata stays attached at every level.
Sequencing data and analysis output
FASTQ from the sequencer, BAM and VCF from the pipeline. Store the raw and processed outputs in the same tree, with read-only access for collaborators and write access for the bioinformatics team.
Compliance and regulatory archives
Lock down a directory of regulatory documents to admin-only access while keeping it inside the same workspace as the day-to-day project files. One source of truth, surgical access control.
Works with your existing tools
Storage rides on Cloudflare R2 with S3-compatible APIs underneath, so any tool that talks to S3 talks to your NextLabs storage layer.
- Cloudflare R2 backend with S3-compatible API
- Presigned URLs for direct browser upload
- Drag-and-drop bulk upload with progress tracking
- Per-directory access control with inheritance
- Signed download URLs with configurable expiry
- Webhooks on file events for downstream pipeline triggers
Frequently asked questions
Where is my data physically stored?
Cloudflare R2 with regional deployment options. Default region is EU for accounts based in Europe, US for accounts elsewhere. Talk to us if data residency requires a specific jurisdiction.
Is there a file size limit?
No practical limit. Uploads go directly to R2 via presigned URLs in chunks, so a 50 GB microscopy stack transfers without timeouts or memory pressure on either side.
How granular is the access control?
Per-directory, per-user, with READ, WRITE, or READ_WRITE grants. Permissions inherit down the tree — grant access to a parent and the children inherit unless explicitly overridden. Org admins always have full access.
Can I share a file with someone who does not have an account?
Generate a signed download URL with an expiry — anywhere from minutes to days. The recipient does not need a NextLabs account, and the link expires automatically. Useful for collaborators and reviewers.
What happens to files if we cancel?
Your data is yours. We provide a one-click full export of all files preserving the directory structure. After cancellation, files are retained for 90 days before deletion in case you need them back.
